To create the framework for a cultural landmark, which will provide fertile ground for a well-functioning welcome center – Hotel, Congress, as well as business with many jobs and a large visitor number of up to 2 million annually.
With a reference to similar tower buildings that benefit from having a great view, the proposed tower building is also likely to have a large number of visitors. For example, the Forest Tower at Rønnede had a visitor number in the year 2021 of almost 400.000.
Taking into account the attractive location of Gateway to Zealand’s at the main road between the regions of Zealand and Funen and the toll station by Storebæltsbroen, it will not be unrealistic to expect 0,5 million visitors a year.
It should be noted that Storebæltsbroen is used by approx. 13 – 14 million vehicles every year. Even with the opening of the Fehmarn connection in approx. 10 years, with the ever-increasing flow of traffic, the same number of vehicles per year must be expected. Taking into account that approx. 10 million vehicles are passenger cars with an average of 2 people in each car, it should not be unrealistic in the first couple of years to expect a visitor number exeeding the the budgetted 500.000. The tower’s capacity with elevators and parking facilities is therefore intended to be dimensioned for a large number of visitors, that can handle congresses and concerts, as well as peak loads in the high season of visitors to the viewing platform.
Additionally, we should expect both local visitors and
international tourists, who do not have to cross the Great Belt Bridge.
